Are you Billy?
Billy is actually a longtime
Glendale resident Frank Whitten, the
original owner of Billy’s Deli. His
nickname was Billy.
It was Lee Whitten, son of Frank
“Billy” Whitten, who created the
famous “Wall” in the front of the
Glendale location on Orange Street.
In the late 60’s, early 70’s, the
“Wall” evolved. Lee Whitten used
real food to create the “Wall of
Food.” Whitten fired individual
molds of salami, cheese, loaves of
bread, casks of wine as models for
decorations.
